Summer Learning Journey! (1)

The Activity: Read a short story about a famous man in Maori  mythology - Maui. On your blog write three facts about what you've learn't about this interesting man! What other stories have you heard about Maui?

Fact 1: When Maui's brothers told him to cut the line from the huge fish, he did not give in and decided he would keep trying.
Fact 2: The Brothers formed the huge mountains in Aoteraroa by cutting huge amounts of flesh from the fish.
Fact 3: When the brothers agreed the should stay, Maui went to Hawaiki, but as soon as he was gone the brothers cut into the fish.

i have heard many stories about Maui, like how Maui slowed the sun, and how Maui brought fire to the world.

  1. Hi Tess,

My name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you over the summer. It's great that you have made a start on these activities. Well done!

These are great facts! I like how you have laid your thinking out so clearly. It was very easy to read and understand.
Your post has made me wonder why Maui didn't agree with his brothers and cut his line. What made him keep trying? A good way to describe what he did is to say he persevered. This means to keep trying even when things are difficult.

It's great to see that you have heard of other Maui stories. Do you have a favourite one?

I look forward to reading more of your blog over the summer.
    Cheers,
    Ruby.

    1. Hi Ruby!
Thanks for commenting on my blog, and for the great feedback too. My favorite out of all of them would be Maui and the Goddess of Fire!

  2. Tena koe Tess,

You have completed another post to a very high standard. What awesome facts you have found out about Maui. I like how you recognised that even though Maui's brothers did not believe in him, Maui continued until he proved he was a great fisherman. This tells me that Maui was a very motivated and hard-working young man. What kind of personality do you think Maui had?

Keep up the awesome work Tess,
    Megan :)
